The Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP)
With today’s increasing pressures on youth, as well as new demands in the workplace, SCSC has developed an innovative program approach to address the needs of both youth and the business community. SYEP has successfully built collaborative partnerships with the business community to provide young people with an opportunity for workplace skills development that can lead to positive career choices, community economic growth and perhaps make the difference between incontestable self-development and youthful crime.
To meet the economic challenges facing youth, SYPE employment partnership provides youth with direct summer jobs and year-round job placements. SYEP works with area high schools, youth organizations and volunteers to provide young people with workplace skills training through a verity of workshops designed to give teens the basic skills needed to begin a successful employment track record.
Adult Computer Learning Program
The Adult Computer Learning Program is designed to work with adults between the ages of 19 to 80, seeking to develop and /or enhance their computer literacy skills.
This hands-on program explores theory and practical applications needed to operate a personal computer. The course also provides discussions on computer terminology, functions, hardware and software including an overview on the applications of the latest electronic developments such as digital cameras, ZIP Drives, Palm-size Computers, Scanners, and other devices. Each course module includes specific activities that will assist the individual in the development of basic skills, followed by class activities that focus on exposing students to specialized courses in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Corel, Adobe and using the Internet.
Emergency Food Pantry and Clothing Closet Program
The Emergency Food Pantry and Clothing Closet Program provide temporary and emergency food and clothing assistance to over 6,000 needy children, families and individuals each year.
In addition, the program offers individuals and families an opportunity to address a comprehensive range of self-development and adult education activities through SCSC direct services or by referring individuals to other community partner agencies and organizations.
The program also provides Technical Assistance in Emergency Service Program Development to area community agencies, churches and family shelter programs throughout Prince George’s County, MD and the District of Columbia.
