SHABACH! Christian Academy provides an excellent Christ-centered academic program for students in Kindergarten through grade Eight. We believe that it is the responsibility of the Christian school to teach truth, foster intellectual development, employ Christian educators, and operate all school practices and policies with integrity.

• SHABACH! MINISTRY DAY:  On Sunday, September 5th FBCG will celebrate SHABACH! Ministry Day.  The ministries of SHABACH! will be highlighted at each church service.  All morning services are held at the Worship Center located at 600 Watkins Park Drive in Upper Marlboro, MD.  Service times are 8:00, 10:00, and 12:00 noon (however, Praise and Worship begins 15 minutes before the 8:00 and 10:00 service).  Evening service is held at 6:30 pm at 3600 Brightseat Road, Landover, Md.   All are welcome to attend. 

• SCHOOL CLOSED:  Monday, September 6th school closed in observance of Labor Day.

• BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT PRAYER SERVICE:  Tuesday, September 7st at 7:00 pm at the Worship Center on Watkins Park Drive.  All are welcome to attend.

• TIME CORRECTION SHABACH! COMMUNITY DAY:  Saturday, September 11th is SHABACH! Community Day from 12:00 Pm to 4:00 pm here at 3600 Brightseat Road.  SHABACH! Ministries has set aside this day to reach out to the community in order to be a blessing to those in need.   There will be giveaways, moon bounces, food and fun.  All are welcome to attend.  We are looking for volunteers and this is a great opportunity to earn service hours.  Please sign up in the front office if you are willing to serve on this day.  (Rain or shine)

• PARENT UNIVERSITY: Our first session of Parent University will be held on Wednesday, September 15, 2010.  This is a general session for all age groups.  The topic for the first session is “Boys and Girls Learn Differently.”  Please see the attached flyer for details. 

• PTO MEETING:  Our first PTO meeting of the year will be held on Monday, September 27, at 7:00 PM.  A general session will be held from 7:00- 7:30, and classroom sessions will be held from 7:40 – 8:15. 

• *DATE CHANGE* - AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS:  After school clubs will begin the week of September 20, 2010.  We are in the process of getting instructors for the various clubs.  The sign-up sheets will come home next Thursday, September 9th.  Also, we would like to have a Boy’s Mentoring Club but are in need of a male facilitator.  The time is 3:30 to 4:30 and the day of the week the facilitator would like to have it scheduled.  Please contact the front office if you are interested no later than 3:00 pm, Tuesday, September 7th. 

• MONTHLY HOT LUNCH:  When purchasing monthly hot lunch for the upcoming months, please make your purchase by the 20th of the month before.  Example:  If you are purchasing monthly hot lunch for October, then you must pay no later than September 20th.  If the 20th falls on a day that we are closed please pay before the date that we are closed.   

• *DATE CORRECTION* - LIBRARY HOURS:  Beginning Thursday, September 9th the library will have evening hours from 3:30 to 6:00pm.   Note that the library is only open late on Thursdays.

• MOBILE DENTIST:  We have a mobile dentist called the Smile Program coming to SHABACH! on September 17th.  The Mobile Dentist provides the following services:  teeth cleaning, x-rays and they will provide the parent with a diagnostic sheet of your child’s teeth.  If you are interested, please fill out the form that was sent home last week and return it to the front office by September 8th. 

• SAFEWAY ESCRIP:  Each year Safeway Grocery Store offers a program called Escrip.  Escrip is a way for schools to earn money while you shop.  Attached is a flyer with instructions.  (Giant also offers a similar program.  Their re-registration process just started and it takes about 2 weeks to process and become available. Once that happens we will inform you and provide instructions.)  Please inform your family and friends who shop at these stores about these programs and encourage them to register their cards. 

  Ms. McNeil says ….  For children who are used to watching TV or playing video games a lot – When When you first turn them off it will be uncomfortable for them.  Once you/they navigate the transition it gets easier.  I promise!
